Myspace hath opened its scaly arms and yielded unto me this surprise discovery. I don’t think I have ever heard a song be more carefree and agonizing at the same time. That barely even makes sense… It’s like skipping along the beach while breathing fire, head swinging to and fro. And maybe baby meteors are landing out in the waves on certain beats, causing bursts of water and steam that act as punctuation to a vividly tumultuous mood.

They have another song on their website, it’s pretty much a polar opposite of this one, smooth and relaxing, but as far as I know there’s nothing available on cd yet. It will be interesting to see where these guys go in the future.

Even before seeing the CD cover I associated this song with flying a jet plane. Maybe it’s because I’ve been playing Space Cowboy during downtime at work recently, but I can really hear this song blaring from the cockpit of an aircraft driven at breakneck speeds by an enraptured 13 year old with reckless abandon. His head doesn’t even reach above the console so all he can do is look straight up at clouds blasting by, and open it up.

Aside from that, I love the title of the song. I think most people would say that the opposite of love is hate, but if anything I think it’s indifference. Hate is often just passion misplaced, misunderstood, or injured. You have to really care about something to love or hate it; it has to matter. Sometimes we mistake one for the other, and sometimes we vacillate between them. Life is a love/hate relationship; maybe the important thing is just to feel.

Here is a pretty funny hip-pop-ish music video that parodies the great American infomercial. Good times. I could take or leave the song, but the video is dead on. Have a super mega ultra extra value sized weekend.

How are you? I’m a little tired, thanks for asking. downy = love. I entreat you to enjoy this video. I’ll let it speak for itself, but I’m trusting you to listen delicately.

Here’s another video, which is staged in abandoned buildings. Lovely. I knew these things went together somehow… These guys/girl strike me as aggressively introspective. They seem to be thinking a lot, in a mindset free of distraction they are playing their thoughts in real-time, decanting a stream of curious detatched fervor.

Quruli – Birthday

I’m only using a very small percentage of my bandwidth currently so I’m thinking about posting streaming videos every now and again, but I’m curious how it would work out. Here’s a test, does it work for you? Does it screw up or bog down your computer? Do you hate music videos? Presumably you need the Flash 7 player to view it, but I’m not sure how many people have it so your input would be greatly appreciated.

This is really not my favorite song of theirs but I like it because the guy in the video illustrates quite exactly how energetic I don’t feel right now….

These guys have played with Rage Against the Machine, are friends with Beck and Fugazi, and have a split 7″ with Rocket from the Crypt. I guess this means that you might know of them, but just in case you don’t, here is a good song of theirs. And don’t let the name scare you away, the Bloodthirsty Butchers are really quite friendly.

Here we have a guitar and bass that are good friends. They seem comfortable with one another and talk to each other in glowing tones that are relaxed but opinionated. In the foreground we have a voice that has just come to terms with itself and is releasing all of its pent up feelings -almost yelling them- from a mountaintop, into the sky or at it.

There seems to be a whole lot of emophobia going around hipster indie circles these days. When I was but a wee lad I heard the term “emo” for the first time in connection with the band Roadside Monument, who I still think are great. But they have about as much in common with Fallout Boy (who is apparently today’s emo posterchild) as say, Mr. T has with Mrs. Butterworth.

So I’m not sure when or how often emo changes definitions, but I wouldn’t have ever thought of Balloons as emo if I didn’t see them listed as such while I was searching for their site. In my opinion, Balloons play some pretty nice guitar-driveny indie rockish music. See for yourself, what do you think?
